CMYK is an acronym representing the four colors of inks used in "four color printing" or "full color printing".
- C for Cyan (process blue),
- M for Magenta (process red),
- Y for Yellow,
- and K for blacK.
The CMYK printing process can reproduce virtually millions of colors and tints through an optical illusion created by creating and arranging tiny color dot patterns using these four primary colors.
The basis of CMYK 4-color printing process has been the printing standard for over 100 years.
Almost all full color books, magazines and commercially printed material are produced today using CMYK 4-color process technology.
In recent years, advances in computer and offset press technology have made the process faster, more versatile and much more affordable.
Offset presses still require more setup work than digital copiers or presses, but they apply ink more smoothly and evenly to produce the image.
CMYK produced offset color looks crisp and clear at any level of magnification and is still the most cost-effective, high-quality printing method for quantities of 1,000 pieces or more.
